My husband Jason, me, and our son
I was not an athlete nor did I play a sport.  I grew up in a typical, loving Western Pa family raised on homemade, animal based meals. Fruit came in a cup and a vegetable came in a can. Most of my family was over weight and many obese. I was overweight my entire adolescence. Was it nature or nurture? Or was it just poor eating habits and food choices that were just passed on from generation to generation? Have you ever heard someone say, "it runs in my family."

Heredity barely plays a role in determining a person's weight. Current research supports 3-5% of individuals inherit an endocrine system problem. The problem is the habits that we inherit!

You do have the power to change. Stop make excuses and begin to live in the NOW and change how you feel for the rest of your life. I am here to help you on your journey. Health is not a destination. Being healthy is just not one aspect of your life. Truly experiencing health begins with your thoughts, your food choices, the people that you surround yourself with, how you respond to stressors in your life, how much physical activity you perform, and also the amount of water that you drink.

We cannot survive on poor food choices and expect to get the results that we desire from exercise alone. If you truly desire well-being and wish to transform yourself then you must accept the challenge and heal yourself with amazing colorful foods and engage in physical activity - DAILY! Yes, I said DAILY. Our bodies are designed to MOVE. Without movement, pain creeps upon us, tightness finds it way, sadness may even wink at us. So GET UP...GET...OUT...and GET MOVING with TREEHOUSE FITNESS!!!

I educate my clients on the healthiest foods available. Plant or animal based. I also cannot stress enough that we are what we eat. Food should be simple. If you can't pronounce it-don't eat it. Think of nature. Go back to nature when you think of food. Think of seasons, think of balance, listen to what your body says. Eat slowly, eat until you are full, and eat only when you are hungry.

My husband, my son, and I are very active and down-to-earth. We want our son to grow up knowing that the lifestyle we lead is normal. I want my son to know that our bodies are designed to move. I do not want him to experience obesity. I want him to make a positive impact on his friends so the story continues!

I had an awakening in my early 20's when I was working at The East End Food-Coop (yes I rode my bike to work).  I was surrounded by beautiful people, colorful produce, an organic juice bar that hooked me from the first try, a vegan/vegetarian friendly cafe menu to forage on and aisles of products that I never heard of. Remember, I am from a small town in western, PA. This was in the late 90's that I discovered this new lifestyle so I was pretty excited.

From that day on I learned as much as I could about the importance of a healthy diet filled with strong, plant-based, organic, nutrient-dense foods. Combine this diet with physical activity and you have found the fountain of youth.

Not making much money at the Co-Op - I decided to go to college, I wanted to study a subject that I could understand and relate to. Of course I wanted to become an astronaut, but who wants to do math for a living. I have since decided that I never wanted to be an astronaut, all I truly desire is a rocket ship ride to get me closer to the stars. So, I graduated Slippery Rock University with my bachelors in Exercise Science (just the tip of the iceberg-still so many questions), attained my Health & Fitness Specialist certification through the American College of Sports Medicine, and I am a certified Hard Style Kettlebell instructor.  These are just a few of my credentials. Every day I search and research for new information that I can share with the world around me. You may think that you don't have the power to change, remember that if you change just 1 person's mind-YOU HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE!
